They had theirs today. Teph's gift to me needs assembling yet, apparently. I know mine to hers does.

It's a shelf for her room. There's not much suprise in it; the piecesparts for it are all over the living room.

But the cats got their presents today. I gave them catnip mice. It's trite, I know, and they already have catnip mice (hoo boy, do they have catnip mice!) but they are always happy to have new ones, with stringy tails that they can use to carry the toy around the house. Trot trot trot, proud, head high. Trilling, too, if it's Shadow.

Of course the new catnip scent doesn't hurt either. Penny and Shadow were giving signs of liking that very much. Poor Patches, though, seems to be immune to catnip. The catnip mouse was nice, but nothing special.

I got out of my computer corner so that Teph could work on my machine for a while. She was creating a bootable CD so she could get her own computer going again. I didn't think to take my great big coffee cup with me when I left my desk. I didn't think it needed any protection.

Looked over a few minutes later to see that Patches Cat didn't have a head. Instead, she had a huge coffee mug where her head should be. She'd pushed her head right to the bottom of the coffee mug and was licking up the coffee grounds that the French Press coffee maker leaves behind. (It makes great coffee, GREAT coffee, but the coffee it makes isn't perfectly transparent.)

She wasn't stuck or anything, she was just enjoying her coffee. After she'd licked up the grounds, she started acting as silly as the other cats.

Patches, the cat who wants our beer, the cat who wants our coffee, has finally gotten some. And Patches likes caffeine.

Now the world shall fear!

Pondering

[livejournal.com profile] silber posted an old black and white commercial for a toy cannon. I seem to vaguely remember being horrified by this commercial back when I was eight or so-- it's black and white, so it would be about that age.

We only had black and white TV back then, although some other people around had color. I used to see the ads for color TVs on our black and white set and wonder if the ads were in color themselves. There was no way I could tell, of course.

Which brings up a more modern pondering. Are the ads for high-definition TVs in high definition? If so, for what purpose?
