We have had a BIT of snow-- it's two feet deep (or that's how far I sink in before I stop). And that's on the flat; we're not talking drifts here. The wind wasn't blowing that much when the snow fell or we'd be in real trouble.

The news yesterday said an elderly woman was plowing the snow from her driveway with a tractor when a passing motorist hit it. The impact threw her into the ditch. The car stopped and Woman No. 2 got out.

She hurried to where Woman 1 was on her back in the ditch with a broken leg. She apologized for the accident, and said she wished she could help, but she was late for her church meeting. Then jumped back in her car and hurried off, leaving Woman 1 still with the broken leg, still in the ditch.

Fortunately somebody found the victim. The police had no problem finding the hit-and-run driver and yanking her out of her church board meeting, presumably in handcuffs. Which must have left quite an impression. They charged her with leaving the scene of the accident and driving drunk-- she blew twice the legal limit.

Elderly women pushing huge snowbanks with tractors, hit by drunk drivers speeding to church board meetings. Only in Northern Michigan.
