I now have-- or will have, if I get a copy of the contract and sign it (and just try to stop me!) my first paid publication. I'm having a short story going into print. It is called Ace in the Hole. And it's being published on...
..wait for it...
a coffee can label.
Ah, the delicious non-irony. Nothing could be more appropriate for me than a COFFEE CAN LABEL.
Nevertheless it is a gen-yoo-ine paid publication. They propose to pay me nearly $100 for a piece which is (obviously) not one of my major works. (To get Flanker on a coffee label you'd have to use rather small type.)
And not only will they send a check, they're going to send COFFEE!
