You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

OK, they have me pegged. I'll even raise a bottle of pop in a toast to ther pespec.. perspa.. oh hell, I don't know how to spell the word. I didn't pay THAT much attention in high school.

I would note, though, that whether it is "pop" or "soda" seems to depend on the container, or rather when I first encountered it. When I was little pop came in bottles, and it's still a bottle of pop. But, on the other hand, it's usually a can of soda.

Also, when I lived in the Chicago area (if you can call it living), NOBODY I knew called it "pop."
