12 Characters meme

tephra_adularia who snagged it from
normanrafferty. With my Cast of Thousands, I gotta try this!
1. Flanker (Velociraptor sapiens, The First, Shatterer of Worlds)
2. Strider (ditto, Flanker's mate, the one creature he fears-- wisely)
3. Daystar (dragon hero- huge, glorious, and a bit accident-prone)
4. Virssa (dragon assasin/agent, with the ability to cloud dragons' minds when they don't see her- in the case of Daystar, even more when he does)
5. Lucan Julius Harvey (starship repair engineer)
6. James Griggs (Harv's boss, bookish, paper-pusher, dresses like it's 1968 and he's in Mission Control-- and then can show up, when necessary, in custom-engineered powered combat armor)
7. Redflame (Dragoness, scientist, Flanker's creator, sort of)
8. Lance Steele of the Galactic Patrol (SF's most disposable hero)
9. Dave (sapient prairie dog colony)
10. Amethyst (sapient battlecruiser starship- think of a five-mile-long giggly teenager armed with planet-killers)
11. Martra (primitive tribes"man," inventor, artist, remembered in legend as a god)
12. She In Her Wisdom the Empress (Why does everybody have to gang up against her? She only wants to establish order!)
Who would make a better college professor: 6 (James Griggs) or 11 (Martra?)
I expect Griggs. He knows how to handle all the administrative BS, and there are secrets in him-- I suspect he knows a lot more subjects than one might expect.
Do you think 2 (Strider) is hot? How hot?
Oh yeah, very. She's smart, and has the most lovely black stripes with blue edges. I wouldn't mention it to her, however. There are also those teeth and claws, you see. And when she's annoyed, she bites.
12 (She in Her Wisdom) sends 8 (Lance Steele) on a mission. Does it succeed?
Are you kidding? Lance is too much of a straight arrow to work for someone as deeply evil as the Empress. However, if he did get fooled into taking the mission, he would probably die. He does that, frequently.
What would be 9 (Dave's) favorite book?
Probably the encyclopedia. It's got enough info in it to keep "him" interested for a while, and it's ideally set up for a multiprocessor-type reading style.
Would it make more sense for 2 (Strider) to swear fealty to 6 (James Griggs), or the other way around?
Neither, really. However, Griggs is that most rare of creatures, a creative administrator. I think Strider would recognize his talents in seeing and handling the Big Picture and would at least consider taking a mission from him. She, on the other hand, is not exactly the administrative type.
For some reason, 5 (L.J. Harvey) is looking for a roommate. Should he share a studio with 9 (Dave) or with 10 (Amethyst)?
Both pose problems. It would have to be a rather large studio for Amethyst to live there. As for sharing an apartment with Dave, that wouldn't be too bad, although the landlord wouldn't like it. Some of Dave would be in the apartment, some would be in the walls scoping out the wiring and plumbing, and most of Dave would be out digging up the lawn.
2 (Strider), 7 (Redflame), and 12 (She in Her Wisdom) are having dinner together. Where do they go and what would they discuss?
One shudders to imagine it. Let us say that Strider and Redflame have good reasons not to like She in Her Wisdom very much, but both of them like fresh liver.
3 (Daystar) challenges 10 (Amethyst) to a duel. What happens?
Splat.
But seriously, Amethyst would recognize that Daystar had been hitting the nip too hard again, and would throw him in the brig until he cooled down.
If 1 (Flanker) stole 8 (Lance Steele's) most precious posession, how would he get it back?
Lance doesn't really own anything.
Suggest a title for a story in which 7 (Redflame) and 12 (She in Her Wisdom) both attain what they both desire.
Hell Freezes Over comes to mind. It can't be done.
What kind of plot device would you use if you wanted 4 (Virssa) and 1 (Flanker) to work together?
Oh, I think maybe there would be some kind of plot against Flanker's life, and Virssa would end up foiling it without Flanker ever knowing.
If 7 (Redflame) visited you for the weekend, how would you get along?
I'd make tea. Spearmint-chamomile is one of her favorites- and mine. She'd have to stay outside, though.
If you could command 3 (Daystar) to perform any one task or service for you, what would it be?
A sightseeing tour in his war-surplus attack ship- the one that's not QUITE as disarmed as it appears.
Does anyone on your friends list write or draw 11 (Martra)?
Tephra has. Quite well, I might add.
If 2 (Strider) had to choose sides between 4 (Virssa) and 5 (L.J. Harvey), which would it be?
Virssa. She's involved with Daystar, and Daystar rates as one of her packmates. 'Raptors are very loyal that way.
What might 10 (Amethyst) shout while charging into battle?
My PAINT! It's ruined!
If you chose a song to represent 8 (Lance Steele), which song would you choose?
Alice Cooper- Clones
1 (Flanker), 6(James Griggs), and 12 (She in Her Wisdom) are having dim sum at a Chinese restaurant. There is only one scallion pancake left, and they all reach for it at the same time. Who gets to eat it?
If you're merely talking about speed, Flanker. He has insanely quick reflexes. However, Flanker has even more reasons to dislike She in Her Wisdom than Strider and Redflame do, so in all likelihood Griggs would get the pancake-- if he still had any appetite left while watching Flanker slash his way into She in Her Wisdom's guts.
What might be a good pick-up line for 2 (Strider) to use on 10 (Amethyst?)
"We're under fire down here. PICK ME UP!"
What would 5 (L.J. Harvey) most likely be arrested for?
I'm sure the Navy would like to get him for failure to obey the orders of a superior officer, but he wasn't in the Navy, so they couldn't. As for stealing the cruiser, he DID give it back.
What is 6 (James Grigg's) secret?
The one we know of is he must have been a member of the Marine commandos at one time or another-- that armor is strictly custom, strictly Marine issue. I think he has other secrets he hasn't told me yet.
If 11 (Martra) and 9 (Dave) were racing to a destination, which one would get there first?
Martra, unless Dave was there already. Or part of him was. Dave is..complicated.
If you had to walk home through a bad neighborhood at night, would you feel safer in the company of 7 (Redflame) or 8 (Lance Steele?)
Oh, come ON now! A fire-breathing but quite lovable dragoness, 50 foot wingspan and all, vs. a hero who really is too good to be true and has an unfortunate tendency to get blown up? Redflame, definitely.
1 (Flanker) and 9 (Dave) reluctantly team up to save the world from the threat posed by 4 (Virssa's) sinister secret organization. 11 (Martra) volunteers to help them, but it is later discovered that he is actually a spy for 4 (Virssa). Meanwhile, 4 (Virssa) has kidnapped 12 (She in Her Wisdom) in an attempt to force their surrender. Following the wise advice of 5 (L.J. Harvey), they seek out 3 (Daystar), who gives them what they need to complete their quest. What title would you give this fic?
Shadows of Empire. Virssa and Martra are behaving in ways completely out of character. NOBODY is going to be able to kidnap She in Her Wisdom the Empress-- her powers of mind control are too great for that. It follows that She in Her Wisdom, or a hidden copy of Herself in any case, is really running things. Harv, with his problem-solving abilities and outsider's impartiality, might see this and suggest how to win. Daystar would give them himself- his love for Virssa and hers for him being one thing that might break the Empress's hold.
Whew!
