Wow, I wish I had dreams that made that much sense. I've never had guardians in my dreams. I'm jealous. ;P
Most of my dragon dreams make no sense to me, truthfully. Once, we walked along earthen dams - to either side of us were green shoots coming up out of about a foot of water. As I looked deeper into the water, I realized that there were humans asleep under the water. I remember asking my dragon about it, but the feelings projected were rather jumbled, and didn't make much sense.
I'm sure someone wiser than I could probably get something profound out of my dreams - but the most profound thing I ever get out of them is that they involve a gorgeous prism dragon.
Since the work you do is involved with keeping the air clean, perhaps the trees really are your totems. They are the most important beings on our planet for maintaining and producing that which we, as humans, need most - to breath.
I've often put my hands on the trunk of some really old tree, and thought their leaves rustling in the wind were singing to me.
