I don't know what it is. I've never been much of a fan of fish, but lately I've hardly wanted to eat anything else.
I've been taking sardines to work for my lunches. Now, the King Oscar sardines cost twice as much as the cheap ones, more than twice as much if you get the cheap ones at Save-A-Lot. But it's only an extra buck or so, and it's worth it. A year ago those cheap ones (they come under many names, but they're all packed in Canada) were maybe four fish in the can. Not that the can wasn't full, it's just that the sardines were that big. Lately each can of Canadian Cheap Sardines has had three square chunks of one fish. That particular sardine must have been about sixteen inches long. The King Oscar are still what I would call a sardine, and they are most tasty. Especially the Mediterranean variety, with black olives and red bell pepper.
At home I've been going through a bag of particularly tasty minced pressed formed battered fish fillets. I'm not sure whether they're actually good ones or whether I'm just hungry enough for fish that they taste that way.
Then there are the beans. Baked beans too, yes, but I've been on a jag for fat-free refried beans.
Tonight I'm having something different, though. A Louisiana-style seafood cake, and fat-free refried beans with roasted red jalapenos!
