This and That
Sep. 14th, 2008 04:54 pmThings have been kind of busy around here. I'm catching up, as usual, at the end of the fiscal year at work. I'm also doing a few things to get ready for winter. I'm not looking forward to winter, but I never do.
We've had a foretaste of winter since the recent hurricanes have tailed out up here. It's been gray and raining forever, by which I mean at least two or three days now. :D
The real reason I've been avoiding posting here, I suppose, is that something unspeakable happened in the family of a close friend of mine; something I shouldn't mention to preserve privacy, probably shouldn't mention even as elliptically as I am now. I don't really know how to handle it, and not knowing how to handle it, not being able to talk about it, has made me reluctant to talk to anybody about anything.
But, tell you the truth, it shouldn't bog me down that thoroughly. Get over it, deal with it, right? Truth is it's probably the start of the sun-going-away funk I go into each year at about this time. I'll get through it. It's not that hard, once I recognize that the world hasn't really gone to hell, it's just the Black Beast toying with me again. He'll leave once the length of days starts to stabilize again. He always does.
On a brighter note, Tephra is home again. I've also got a couple writing projects I've started-- two at once! That's pretty cool. I've got another story in http://www.anthrozine.com , and I like this one; it's plain old entertainment, no heavy preachy moral to the story, which is always refreshing. Anyway, it's called _Cutter._ Check it out over there if you wish. If you don't wish I'll be posting it here once Anthro is done with it, so you can ignore it here too. :D
And now I'm going to pour myself a Safety Drink, so that when the inevitable complaint comes in I can sit back and say "I'm sorry, I had a drink, and under our Official Alcohol Policy I can't go to work with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.02%." Might even go out on the front porch, watch it rain, and smoke a cheap cigar. My way of saying UP YOURS to the world!
