Word Processing
Mar. 11th, 2007 10:14 pmMy brain hurts.
Headache, eyes won't focus. Me to bed soon.
The reason is that I formatted Hilltown for publication today. I already had this done, mostly; everything on 9x6 size pages, properly laid out for binding into a book. Lulu.com provides free document templates set up to their specifications. That part wasn't so hard.
What was hard, and what was driving me crazy, was picky little formatting things that I would change and change and change again-- because Open Office kept changing them back on me.
Turns out this was partly my own fault. I was saving Hilltown in M$ Word something-or-other, which Open Office handles well. But not perfectly. Apparently it strips some formatting out when it converts its native format to Word format, and vice versi.
This time I got it all right, I think. Saved it in Open Office's native format, and immediately burned a .pdf of it. If Open Office magically changes everything back the way it was, I will go bugnuts-- but hopefully the .pdf, once made, is made. So that's done.
It seems OK now. But my eyes are burned out, and I haven't even really GOTTEN to the desktop publishing part of the equation yet.
I had thought I'd have Hilltown ready to sell this weekend. I guess not, but it should be-- well, anything from next weekend to next year, depending on how cranky the desktop publishing part turns out to be.
